Cleanup Sunday in Cedarvale

Sunday 24th April was Cleanup Day: for the fourth year in a  row, in conjunction with Councillor Mihevc, Friends of Cedarvale and other volunteers helped make the park a tidier place. This is the pile we gathered, under the Glen Cedar footbridge:

It included a lone ski, three hula hoops, two lengths of plastic pipe,  two film lighting devices, a travelling briefcase, a jacket, a large piece of rusty metal, a tarpaulin, some chicken wire and many bags of garbage. Other bags of garbage were left elsewhere in the park. Here are three of our volunteers:

Carl managed to remove two pipe fittings from the plastic pipe, which he said he would use in a plumbing job at home:

The photographer from one of the local community newspapers was there (on right below), together with Joe Mihevc.

Here I am with Beth Gosnell, Councillor Mihevc’s assistant; she always brings the gloves and plastic bags. We provide the drinks and cookies:

Last year, the Hon Carolyn Bennett helped out with the cleanup. This year she is rather busy elsewhere!

Our next event will be a tree planting event next Saturday 30th April at 10 am, in partnership with Parks, Forestry and Recreation: meet in the Phil white Arena parking lot. We will be planting native trees and shrubs on the slope beside the arena. We should be finished by noon.
