This year Friends of Cedarvale were invited to host a table at our Liberal MP Carolyn Bennett’s Canada Day celebration in Wells Hill park. On a somewhat blustery Wednesday 1st July, we set up our table. Below you can see Susan Aaron, Carolyn and Ivor Simmons at the table:
Later, we persuaded the “official” mountie to pose with us. His name was given in one of the speeches and I asked him whether I should include it in the blog. “I’d rather you didn’t” was his response. I have respected his wish.
Another visitor was local Liberal MPP and Ontario Health Minister, Dr Eric Hoskins. His official photographer took this picture with me in it this time; his assistant, Mike Ferguson, sent it to me later.
Ward 22 councillor Josh Matlow was also present, with his wife and daughter, so all three levels of government were represented. There were speeches, a drumming group, many other tables and stalls, and free hot-dogs and drinks. We talked to a lot of people about the park and ravine, and gathered a few more names for our e-mail list, which now stands at 147 members.
Our next event will be a Healing Plants walk with Helen Mills on Sunday 20th September at 2 pm; further details will be announced later.
