Young white pines broken by ice storm

A sad example of ice storm damage is shown by photos taken in late April of two young white pines on the west slope just below the Ava Rd entrance, both snapped off near the top:

Here is a closer view of the one on the left:

It remains to be seen how nature will deal with this calamity. Perhaps the trees will start new branches that will become the main trunk; but they will  probably not continue the straight growth typical of these trees.
