Yesterday, 2nd April, five of our Steering Committee hiked around Cedarvale with Cheryl Post of Natural Environment and Community Programs looking at potential sites for tree planting and mulching later this year and in later years. It was around zero degrees, with a stiff wind blowing. Cheryl pointed out several slopes where native trees and shrubs could be planted. She also showed us sites for “stewardship”, which in this case would mainly mean mulching around existing trees. Once specific projects are firmed up, our job will be to help get volunteers out. By the time we are working on the projects, it will probably be too hot rather than too cold!
